Speaking and Listening
Year 3/4 have been practising our speaking and listening skills. We watched a debate from the House of Commons. We recreated the debating chamber in our classroom. We debated several issues, including:
This House believes school children should be banned from playing computer games.
This House believes school uniform should be phased out.
This House believes television should be banned.
We found it really difficult to argue for things we didn't believe in, but we managed to come up with some fantastic reasons.
We practised our speaking skills. We made some rules to help us:
1) Stand up straight.
2) Look at the people you are talking to.
3) Hold your hands still.
4) Be proud to use your voice!
We also made some rules to help us be a good listener.
1) Look at the person who is talking.
2) Sit still.
3) Think about what they are saying.
