In Design and Technology we have been designing a healthy sandwich. Our design brief is to produce a healthy snack that could be sold in a supermarket.

Firstly, we researched different kinds of sandwiches. Then we discussed the functions of each part of the sandwich. We concluded that the bread gives us carbohydrates, the spread gives us essential fats, and the filling can provide us with protein, vitamins and minerals and fibre.

Our next task was to test lots of different kinds of bread. Our geography project is 'Food from around the World', so we decided to try bread from as many countries as possible. We found all the countries of origin on the globe. Our favourite was Irish Soda bread. Our least favourite was German Rye bread. We also liked Chapatis, Naans and Danish bread.

We evaluated the bread against a list of criteria - including smell, texture, taste, and cost. We think it is important to make sure we choose the most suitable bread. Although we loved the Irish Soda bread, we thought it was an awkward shape to make into sandwiches and it was quite expensive. We didn't think people would pay that much for their lunch. It also had quite a strong flavour and we thought it might not mix with the filling.

We have all designed our sandwiches and we are looking forward to making and eating them - look out for some pictures of our finished product!
