Year 4/5 Food Glorious Food

Our Creative Curriculum theme this half term is Food Glorious Food.

We will be exploring food from around the world and finding out where the food we eat comes from.

We will also be learning about traditional recipes and trying our hand at baking - we've produced our first batch of fruit scones already and are looking forward to experimenting with different flavours.

We would welcome any donations of flour, dried fruit or margarine to keep our stocks up!
Thanks
Mrs H

Year 4/5 Jonni Starr at Heworth clc

Year 4/5 had a great day on Friday at Heworth clc, based at Heworth Grange comp. We spent the day exploring music software called 'Music Maestro', learning about tempo, pulse and rhythm.

We then worked in groups to create a soundtrack for an animation about the superhero 'Jonni Starr'.

One group used electronic keyboards to create background music. Another worked on a theme tune which was recorded in a sound booth. Others used software to arrange soundeffects throughout and another group used an electronic drum kit to create their own sounds. We had people playing the parts of Jonni Starr, Astra, Rob and the narrator and they wrote the script and recorded dialogue in the sound booth.

Take a look at our fab photos below and watch out for the finished animation which we will be uploading and posting here shortly!

Year 4/5 Shines and the Carol Concert!

Well done to everyone in year 4/5 for their fantastic performance at the Carol concert. All the children have worked hard in trumpet lessons and many practised lots in their own time. The children gave a polished performance of 'Jingle Bells' and Paige, Elliott and Caitlin wowed us with their performance of 'Good King Wenceslas'. In addition to the wonderful solo performance by Sam Carson, the whole class was involved in telling the story of Christmas in Austria. Chloe Kerr starred as the Christmas tree, Scott Thompson made his debut as the devil and Caitlin gave a stunning performance as St Nicolas. The congregation were impressed by year 4/5's German skills as they gave a moving rendition of 'Stille Nacht.'

Year 4/5 Trumpet Lessons

Thank you to everyone who is remembering to bring their trumpets to lessons and well done to those children who are regularly practising. There are some children who are forgetting to practise and bring their trumpets. We are extremely lucky to have the opportunity to learn the instruments, so please make the effort. Hopefully, by the end of the year, we will have a marching band.

Year 4/5 Trip to South Shields

Year 4/5 enjoyed a fantastic day out in South Shields. We travelled by metro back in time. We were evacuated with our names tags and learnt lots about life in WW2. Sarah, the learning officer was very impressed with our knowledge. We were really lucky to handle and learn about lots of original artefacts.

We enjoyed dressing up in wartime clothes and experimenting with different rations.

We also became Museum Detectives and completed some very challenging maths problems to crack the code. Once we had the code, we could stop the Phantom Claw from destroying the artefacts.

We loved seeing the Creature Corner and all the exotic animals. We saw a huge snake and lots of tarantulas.

Year 4/5 Assembly

On Wednesday the 8th October Year 4/5 gave a stunning performance in their assembly on 'Being in the Community.'Everyone had a speaking part and worked hard to perfect their lines. Miss Hayden was really proud of all of us and we all earned a well deserved certificate. For some children it was the first time they had had a speaking part. 'I felt nervous, excited and proud!' reported Sophie. We hope you enjoyed watching us as much as we enjoyed rehearsing.

We learnt about Irish history and culture, and all the things Irish people like to do and are famous for - like socialising and being such friendly, happy people! Everyone had to wear as much green as possible, and our classroom was turned into Ireland for the day! See the photos for yourself - we had shamrocks, leprechauns and banners everyhwere!
