Athletics
Amber York, Kristian Wood and Joe Currie (all from Year 6), were recently nominated to represent the Heworth cluster Athletics team who competed in the Athletics Cluster Competition, held at Gateshead Stadium last week. All 3 perfomed admirably, with Amber coming an excellent first in the 4lap track event.
Well done on being such fantastic athletes!
Mr Connor.
Football Results
A big congratulations to all the footballers who took part in the recent 7-a-side competition at Gateshead Stadium. The boys played 3 matches, won one, drew one, and narrowly lost one. They all played fantastically well and a big mention goes to Tom Corbett, who was nominated as the man of the tournament by Miss Brand.
Well done to everyone! Mr Connor.

Christmas at St. Mary's
On Thursday 18th December, we had our Christmas carol concert at St. Mary's church. Our theme this year was Christmas around the world. Each Key Stage 2 class researched and prepared a small presentation about a particular country. Year 3 enjoyed telling us all about The Netherlands. Year 4/5 sang Silent Night in German, as well as telling us all about German traditions. Year 5/6 told us about French celebrations and sang Jingle Bells in French.
Alongside our traditional Christmas carols, with soloists Adam Young and Sam Carson, we also had instrumental contributions from our recorders, guitars, clarinets, flutes and trumpets.
The Spotlight Stealers Do It Again!
Once again congratulations must go to the Drive Drama Group "The Spotlight Stealers" for a fantastic production of "A Christmas Cracker". Ms Lucy Wyles, one of our school governers, had written the production especially for us and the pupils spent a long time in rehearsals to make sure that they put on a great show. It was performed on the last afternoon before the Christmas break and was a wonderful way to begin the Christmas celebrations. "It was just like being at the pantomine" said CC of year 2 and indeed it was! Well done to everyone who took part, you always make me very proud with how much effort you put in.

Key Stage 1 Nativity
On Wednesday 17th December, Key Stage 1 performed their annual Nativity play. This year, it was called 'The Grumpy Sheep.' The pupils thoroughly enjoyed learning all of the songs. The story was based on the traditional nativity story, but from the point of view of one of the sheep, who was at first very grumpy about all the visitors. However, after seeing baby Jesus lying in his manger, the sheep was no longer grumpy, but happy.

We are asking our dancers to bring along any ideas they may wish to share with us to develop our routine and of course their enthusiasm for putting on a fabulous display!
So put on your dancing shoes and ... let's go dancing!
